More recently, in the show “Russian Doll,” her character sent out some strong queer vibes too.

She’s got this knack for bringing realness to LGBTQ+ roles, like those in “Orange is the New Black”, making them relatable and avoiding clichés.

In a new interview with The Independent, Lyonne recalled an initial burst of fame when she starred in “But I’m a Cheerleader” alongside Clea DuVall in 1999. We’re all in the same existential problem. The guessing game keeps going because she plays queer roles that feel real. So we’re gonna do our sexy little photoshoot.

She has portrayed queer characters in her roles and has expressed her support for the LGBTQ+ community despite not identifying as gay herself.

But I don’t want my whole life, and certainly my creative experience, to be in response to always just being “the girl.” Like, who needs it?
